The City of Leander will lease space on Hero Way to host senior adult activities, youth summer camps and other community events beginning in April.
The city has leased 14,400 square feet of space at 11880 Hero Way W. for three years with the option to lease for an additional two years, according to a March 11 statement. The city will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 9 at 1 p.m. for the municipal facility.
Senior programs will begin April 11 at the new facility and summer youth programs will begin June 6, according to the city. The city will also expand its indoor programming with the new facility, such as fitness and cooking classes.
The Leander City Council may approve the naming of the facility the “Leander Activity Center” at the March 17 meeting. Council members authorized a rental agreement for the Hero Way West facilities on February 7.
The Leander Activity Center is a temporary space as the city continues to plan for its future senior center and recreation center. Voters approved funding for the facilities in the 2016 bond election, but no construction has begun on those projects due to site selection and other delays. Many city programs and activities take place in the Leander Public Library Annex.
The center will be located at 11880 Hero Way West, Ste. 600, Leander, where Hill County Bible Church Leander once met. Information on the city’s program is available at www.leandertx.gov/fun.
