The Clovis senior activity center reopens after 16 months

CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) – “They haven’t been able to see each other so for some it’s a real reunion,” said Amy Hance, general service manager at Clovis.

It was all fun and games at the grand reopening of the Clovis Senior Activity Center on Thursday morning, a moment that many regulars were looking forward to.

“Hallelujah! This is really awesome, this is awesome. I mean, there are so many people here and I love it,” said Nelda Hinojosa, a regular participant.

Their doors closed a year and a half ago because of the pandemic.

Nelda Hinojosa, 73, says the center became an outlet for her in 2017 after her father passed away and it was difficult to find ways to care.

“I felt like it was time for me, for me to take care of myself and do things that I would love to do, that’s why I came here and I love it”, a- she declared.

Now she can pick up where she left off alongside her friends.

“Last year has been terrible so I think everyone is really looking forward to meeting again. You get to see a lot of your old friends that you haven’t seen for a long time,” she said.

Hinojosa and Hance wish to invite all seniors to join the center at any time. Activities include everything from zumba and dancing to yoga, playing pool or just having a chat. The facility can accommodate up to 300 people.

“You just have to be 50, so it’s like a senior citizen recreation center, but it’s the people that make it so special,” Hance said.

Hance says national and local guidelines will be in place. All activities resume Friday at 8 am.
